Is the world happening for you, or to you?

Is the world happening for you, or to you?

Is the world happening FOR you, or TO you?

Inspired by James Smith, I took a look back at where I was 10 years ago today.

What’s changed? Have I grown? Have I continuously fulfilled the incredible human potential that I believe every single one of us has?

I really surprised myself, looking back just over a decade. I couldn’t quite believe all that I had accomplished in just 10 years.

I met my super hero of a wife. We bought our first house together. Had the most memorable wedding day with friends and family. Renovated our home. Had our first child, Etta-May. Won a premiership title. Sold our house. Moved in with our extended family. Had our twins. Won another premiership and a European cup. Left professional rugby with the Exeter Chiefs. Fundraised money to start my own business. Started on my solopreneur journey. Met new incredible people. Made more changes than I could imagine in designing a winning business that would help millions of people in the future... AND I’M JUST GETTING STARTED…

I actually could not believe that I’d managed to cram all that into a decade!

All too often we suffer from ‘high-jumpers syndrome’: Agonising over the one centimetre we have not managed to clear, as opposed to celebrating the two metres we have.

This exercise was a great reminder for me to check in. To see if I was taking action on being the man I would like to be - today, and in the next 10 years. All in all, I’m a very different version of myself than I was ten years ago, and I’m quite pleased with that!

I’m making the world happen FOR me.

It’s NOT easy. It’s actually the hardest thing I have ever done, bar nothing. However, I know it will enable me to live my dreams, and to test my character. Hard decisions now make for an easier life later.

So this is me encouraging you to check in, and see how you’re doing. If you’re happy with what you’ve accomplished - great! If not, today’s the best day ever to make some changes that will mean you can live your values in the years and decades that lie ahead.
